facial markings. White tufts lining the beak and forming a crescent around her eyes. Kass is in the more silvery hues of her species; her facial disk is a stormy gray color, while the rim is a dark brown.
feathers. The feathers of a barred owl tend to change color throughout seasons, and in varying lightings. Kassandra's plumage tends to be a dun hue, in general. In the winter, shades lean towards a more misty gray, and in the summer a dusty brown. Intermingled with white, these darker feathers spot her chest, and more heavily splatter her head and back. These feathers are also vertically streaked along her belly and leave faint horizontal bars under her tail. The length of her feathers are an average four inches for her species, and kept in prime glossy condition through preening.
eyes. Her eyes are the typical dark, muddy brown found on barred owls. They are the average size and shape, diagonal chestnuts that are set like obsidian on either side of her beak.

feet. A lively goldenrod color, with feathers extending down her legs, but not nearly to her feet. The feathers from Kassie's stomach billow down and fall across her talons, nearly shielding them from view, and keeping them warm. Her talons are the same dark brown as her eyes, appearing black in shadow, and chocolate in sunlight.
body build. Kassandra in not a very muscular owl, as she is not used to catching very big game. Used to swoop down upon tiny morsels, the only parts of her body that are powerful are her legs and her wings. She has a lot of muscle in her wings, being accustomed to hovering, and a moderate amount of strength in her talons, as she needs it to snatch her prey.

overall personality. Kassandra is a very intelligent bird, but she oftentimes doesn't like to reveal that to others. She often feels like what she wants to say will go right over the heads of other birds, and being the modest type, does not like to show off, or stand out. Kass tends to be stoic in most matters of her life, including rearing young and hunting. While she is mostly stolid, she does indeed have her more childish moments, especially when she is caught in the moment, and feeling comfortable around others. She does not trust easily, but is friendly and ridiculously loyal once she warms up to another creature.
Kassie despises animals that are harsh, or unbearably cruel towards the weak, and oftentimes feels a motherly urge to defend those smaller than her, facing a larger opponent. She also has an extreme repulsion for rudeness, and creatures that judge merely by first sight. She herself does not judge one by their fur, or their first impression, knowing full well that an animal may not seem to at first have the potential they may later show, once accustomed to a foreign presence.

Kassandra was born in the Arden Forest to parents Hortense and Trinity. Her younger siblings, Stella and Storm, entered the world in the same brood. They met the world with wide-eyed wonder, and with two older brothers as well- Aaron and Modoc. Within two weeks of their hatching, Modoc fell out of the nest during flying practice. His feathers were developed enough to allow him a soft landing, but because primaries were not fully fledged, he could not make it back into the tree. After two nights on the ground, he was savagely devoured by raccoons.
After another moon cycle, and some flight training from mum and da, Aaron left the nest in search of a mate and his own life. The youngest brood was once more alone. They lived in the quiet solitude of that fir tree for many moon cycles, being fed by their mother and father, and carefully preening the tiny black tips poking through their skin. Finally, they were ready to fly. Following their parents, they glided out into the night, and gradually learned the art of hunting.
Stella struck out very soon after their first few flight lessons, having been the quickest learner, and the most eager to start her own family. Storm and Kass, however, were in no rush to leave their beloved home and their parents.
It was not long before Trinity was laying another brood, and Storm and Kass decided that it was time to leave the nest before things got too crowded. Storm and Kass flew in the same region for a while, searching for their homes together, but then Storm struck off directly to the North one night, and Kassie found herself flying all alone in a Westerly direction.
She has lived thus far in an abandoned Snail Kite's nest, the hollow top of a dead tree, and the bristly spines of a young fir tree, and found none satisfactory. Kassandra flies on, ever searching for a place to settle down. She is still young, and hopes maybe to find a mate in her travels that has already staked out a bit of territory.
