Sarafina stretched and yawned, revealing her blood stained teeth to the world. She had just finished her meal - a nice plump gazelle - and was feeling rather content indeed. She licked her lips before setting to the task of grooming once more; delicately cleaning all of the dirt and blood off her coat with long sweeps of her tongue. This was the life, she thought. Sunbaking - savannah style.
The tranquil waterhole she was reclining beside reflected the bright sun, which in turn warmed her pale gold coat in a pleasant way. Her world was peaceful; no empty stomach to complain, no lions to come pestering and no pesky zebra either. Her mind wandered back to her mother and her younger brother, and she wondered whether they were well. But she could not return back to her home territory, she had left and that was that.
She lazily surveyed the grasslands that were spread out before her, where wildebeest grazed in massive herds and those tasty gazelles sprang away after something had startled them. Sarafina loved her home, and there was no one who was going to change that.
But she was lonely. She had seen no other cheetahs in the area, and she didn’t know whether it was simply because she was new here and they were wary, or because there were no other cheetahs in the area. She had quite gotten used to company while living with her mother, and had bee especially fond of her little brother. Perhaps, she thought, when she was older, she might like to start a family of her own. But for now, she was happy with her lot in life. After all, it could be much worse.

Duke walked through the grasslands where he had met his first friend Tabia who was like a sister to Duke but like all animals she had a life to go live so she and her went separate ways for a wile he hoped to see her again but that might be a while. Despite Dukes inability to make eye contact with other animals he was a kind animal but others thought he was creepy so he didn't talk much to anyone except a little bird every once in a while his name was tweet he was a fat bird too. duke slowly and quietly made his way through the savanna the weather was nice and he loved it but animals thought he was sad and in a way he was his past haunted him and the fact he never found his sister Saphire made things worse, so the sad look was almost always there.
He spelled blood was someone hurt maybe he would find his sister alive and wounded better than dead. he quickened his pace to a trot not very silent anymore he could her some dead leaves crackle under his paws as he made his was towards the smell and soon he picked up a scent of a female cheetah his heart leaped maybe it was his sister Saphire. he stopped and crouched low to be unseen and looked at the other cheetah to his disappointment it wasn't his sister she looked like Tabia but he knew it wasn't her either.
He slowly rose up and as usual made no eye contact she probably just finished eating and seemed to enjoy herself she was lucky duke was cursed with a bit of paranoia making him neurotic he spoke his word were clear and quiet "hi" was all he said may as well try to make friends he didn't meet other cheetah very often "Sorry for the intrusion i thought that" he paused her didn't want to bring it up it hurt him enough that he couldn't save his sister and the fact he thought for a small minute this cheetah was sapphire didn't help in the least, "I thought you were someone else" He said finally he shook his head to clear his thoughts "Umm my name is duke whats yours?" he said quickly
ooc; word count: 393 Muse level: Low Notes: YAY another cheetah for duke to meet :3 i don;t use duke much so i hope its ok for him to join and don't mind his little bit emo personality ^-^ [/center]

Sarafina’s ears pricked up as the sound of crunching leaves tickled her ears, breaking her out of her little bubble of bliss. She wasn’t all that concerned really though, but she did glance around briefly before lying flat again. It was probably just some random animal like a warthog running through the undergrowth. Those silly animals knew nothing about being quiet.
But the footfalls got closer, and she pushed herself up onto her paws to keep an eye on things. The fact that she couldn’t see whatever was making the footsteps didn’t help either. It made her nervous. She hadn’t seen any big predators in the area, but surely there would be a lion pride around somewhere with all these prey animals hanging around.
There were two things that Sarafina really feared in the world: lions and drowning. She had almost been killed by a pair of adolescent lions when she was younger, and had only escaped because she could run faster then them. Ever since that encounter, she had made a point of avoiding lions, and particularly prides of them. But she knew all too well that a single lion could easily do as much damage as a pride of them if they caught her, and this had her very wary indeed.
The sound of approaching feet stopped, and although she was trying her best to look unconcerned, she instinctively tensed her muscles ready to spring away at the slightest provocation. If there was something she had faith in it was her own speed. No animal alive could outrun her in a spring, she was sure, and certainly no hungry lion could match her so long as she got a fast getaway.
Her own private stalker soon revealed himself from behind the cover of bushes however - a strangely patterned male cheetah. Sarafina’s nose twitched and she sat up a little straighter, her eyes just as wary as before. Males; they only meant trouble. She nodded in acknowledgement as he greeted her; he was polite enough. But that could mean nothing.
The only males she had experience with were her father and the other unsuitable suitors who came to try and woo her mother. Her mother had been surprisingly loyal to her father, and had refused those other males, but at great personal risk since some of those males had no intention of being denied. Lucky Sarafina’s mother was one of the quickest cheetahs around (Sarafina had inherited her speed), and could pack a punch when she wanted to. Sarafina had no interest whatsoever in offspring at this stage, so did not uncoil her muscles at spotting this male.
At least he didn’t expect to see her here; which was a plus she supposed. At least this visit wasn’t pre-meditated. Her suspicions increased however as he introduced himself as Duke. Sarafina was being completely biased and unreasonable of course, but she had no reason to think otherwise. Still, Sarafina had been brought up to be polite. She couldn’t just ignore him and walk away could she? That would be the epitome of rudeness.
“Greetings to you also. I am called Sarafina,” she replied a little more cautiously than usual, pulling her thin, elegant frame from the sand and shaking herself lightly to clean her coat off. In the corner of her eye she saw her reflection in the water and wondered what another male would think of her anyway. She was still young after all, but was quite pretty as cheetahs went. She still carried the sunset red eyes of a much younger animal, however her paler than usual coat wasn’t fluffy like that of a kitten.
Sarafina cocked her head slightly at a bird singing in a nearby tree - wondering what to do in this situation. She could leave with grace and dignity easily enough, but how was she to know what this male - Duke - wanted? Perhaps it was more intelligent to find that out first. She had no friends here in this new territory after all, and was in no position to let the chance pass her by.

duke sat and stayed were he was abut 3 r 4 feet away from the the cheetah he had come here with no warning no doubt scaring her and spied on her for a moment but he thought she was someone else and didn't mean to intrude and spoil the fun she may have been having on this nice sunny day. she introduced herself as sarafina nice name duke thought to himself. She was again the usual plains cheetah but her eyes were a reddish color and her coat was pale much like a kitten only without the kitten fuzz. Duke made no eye contact as usual he never did animals were lucky to even look into his eyes and as for as duke knew his mother, father, and his sister were the only ones who did but that was when life was good, now life was well it seemed more unfair to duke. He wandered the savannas as a lone cheetah, no one to talk to, he had hardly any friends and the one friend he did have had her own life to live and he never intruded on one's life not intentionally anyway.
he knew she wanted to leave her muscles were tense ready to run away she was a lot more cautious than he but duke was almost always calm the only thing that scared him was sudden snapping sounds and the reason for that was because of his dark past to which he never revealed to anyone. This cheetah on the other hand seemed like she was prepared for danger such as angry warthogs or an outraged lion but lions seldom came here they stayed in their pride lands. Duke disagreed with aggressive ones who picked fight outside the pride land it was rude outside where live cheetahs and other animals thrive usually on their own and didn't make females hunt for them.
Duke finally made an attempt to speak but he wasn't good at starting conversations with other animals "sorry if i scared you" he said it was a bit late for and he probably sounded foolish apologizing now but he wanted to say something he didn't like animals to think he was a creep who was way out of his rocker but that's the impression most animals get gazing upon his face which held sadness, and a little bit of craziness. he knew why he looked sad almost all the time but as for animals who didn't know him well most thought he was a crazy emo cheetah and he really wasn't.

Sarafina sized up the male cheetah as he apologised for scaring her. Was he being serious or was that simply just a creepy pick-up line? He seemed sincere… and a little sad. Sarafina wondered why that was, but she wouldn’t pry. It wasn’t in her nature to be rude. She figured she could outrun him if he tried anything on anyway, so as a display of trust she sat back down on her haunches.
“Surprised would be a better way of putting it,” she replied dryly, finally answering his attempts at conversation, “I didn’t think there were any other cheetahs near here. If this is your territory I will move on at your request.” She very much doubted this fact however, since there were no scent markings of another cheetah anywhere near, and if this was indeed his territory he was doing nothing to stake his claim. Which would simply be silly, so she had to draw the conclusion that this land was fair game for whoever wanted to stay on it. “If this isn’t your land, do you live here?” she asked again, not waiting for the answer to her previous question since she already knew it anyway.
She batted a pesky Oxpecker away that tried to land on her nose. Had she not been in company she would have leapt into the sky after it, but as it was she knew that doing so would simply be rather silly. Her eyes did follow its flight though, almost hungrily. Not because she was physically hungry, but because she loved a challenge. She loved to jump. She loved to run. Anything physically demanding she was up for it.
Reluctantly she returned her gaze to the oddly patterned cheetah sitting in front of her once the bird had turned into a little black dot in the sky. He would not meet her eyes, and she did wonder why that was too. Sarafina was curious, and soon her curiosity was going to burst out of her if questions kept on popping into her head like this.

Duke eyed the ox pecker lingering about "nothing little buggers" he muttered and watched as Sarafina batted it away his eyes followed it as it lazily flew away. She had confirmed that he has surprised her not scared her either way he was sorry for intruding "oh no there are no other cheetahs" he sighed thinking again of his sister. He shook his head "and no it isn't my territory i don't claim land" he replied "and no i didn't live here either i just kind of wander no official home" he looked at the bird who was now a small speck against the ocean blue sky.Duke wandered what she though of his...odd behavior like why he made no eye contact, why he looked sad, pft why he barged in he felt a small grin thinking about how confused she might be. Duke confused himself sometimes too his life was...complicated was the word he often used.
he saw her turn her attention back at him but he just starred at the dissipating speck in the sky "so much freedom he has" Duke mumbled under his breath he didn't talk a lot usually things he said half the time was when he was talking incoherently to himself he finally lowered his head from the big sky and the bird who had vanished into the sea of blue above him. duke knew she was probably curious about his odd behavior and that maybe she was going to pop if he was any weirder than he already was none the less duke wasn't exactly self conscious he never really was, animals usually thought so little of him that eventually he was able to ignore it he wanted to apologize for his strange personality but he kept quiet finally he said a bit late " If anyone should leave that would be me" he chuckled quietly trying to perk up ''im the one who 'surprised' you" he tried to keep a decent conversation going

Sarafina flicked an ear at the confirmation of no other cheetahs in the area. She didn’t know whether to be relieved or disappointed. No other cheetahs meant no other friends for her to play with, but it also meant no squabbles or competition for food.
Sarafina had to admit, not only was Duke oddly patterned, but also rather odd in general. There were aspects of his behaviour; the whole aloof act, that made her think that he was either really shy or something was bothering him, and had been for a long time. But despite the fact that she was a caring cheetah, she had no wish to pry into the other’s life. She did not know him well enough, and she was a little shy in the world herself, since she could hardly boast walking across this great parched land for very many years at all.
“Oh, you don’t have to leave if you don’t want to,” replied Sarafina suddenly, surprising even herself, “I’m just sorry that I’m such poor company. But tell me if you will, of this territory we are standing in. You say you are a wanderer, but surely you must know something of this place. Are there any dangers nearby? Watering holes? Great shady glades?”
Sarafina’s curiosity and her want to know more of this new home for her made her ask this, and who better to get the information from than a fellow cheetah, albeit an odd one.

Duke listened to Sarafina she seemed more talkative than he did she confirmed He didn't have to leave and asked about the area "i know some things yes" he said after she was done bombarding him with questions "the only decent are i can think of is owned by a lone Lion it has all kind of pray and a watering hole i hear it's very nice but I wouldn't dare trespass he may be a lone lion but that will only last so long" Duke said he had never been to the Kawari pride lands and he didn't plan on going soon "otherwise the nearest watering hole is a couple miles not in the pride lands as for shade you gotta know where to look " He said he wasn't exactly sure where shade was he seldom stopped to get shade he usually just walked "And the only danger is the lion don't go into his land i get the feeling he doesn't take kindly to cheetahs, but i have no idea just something a little birdie told me." duke said in a subtle warning for her to stay away from the lands that the lion owned.
"For a cheetah who should know the savannas you don't seem like you know it well" Duke pointed out this confused him He wondered why she acted like she had just arrived at the gran Savannas "if you don't mind my asking why" he said but he didn't want to pry maybe she had just arrived and it was to personal for her to discuss but she would say something if that was the case or at least he hopped she would Duke wasn't one to pry and he didn't like it when he felt like he was doing so. He sighed and laid down content waiting for her reply but he only half expected her to say something he wouldn't mind if she kept to herself, he shouldn't mind he kept to himself almost all the time like a big never popping bubble but he was content all the same.

Sarafina shifted her weight nervously in the response to the lone lion comment - she made a note to steer well clear of him. Lone males were often hungry without a pride to feed and hunt for them, and there was no telling exactly how hungry he might be. She didn’t really need Duke’s warnings to keep herself away from the lion’s domain, but they only served to strengthen her decision in avoiding him.
“Well,” she said, a little shy all of a sudden, “I have just left my mother’s lands quite some distance away. I had to leave so that all of her food is not eaten by me. I have only just settled here.” A thought suddenly occurred to her - what if Duke actually was the cheetah in these parts and wanted her out? How rude of her not to think of this sooner! From her experience males were generally wanderers, but you never know. And besides, her experience was hardly great anyways.
“I’m so sorry - are these lands yours? I should have asked earlier,” she apologised, suddenly feeling very young and inexperienced. How could she have been so silly? Forgetting all her mother’s lessons about how she should act - Sarafina knew her mother would have been disappointed in her. How strange it was that the more time she spent in Duke’s presence she found her courage melting away to the levels of a very young cub who had just had a rather big scare.

Dukes ears perked, she was talking shyly now, at least he didn't anger her she had only just left her mother's lands as to be not eaten herself "Ah" he said , he felt bad for her "It's hard when you first leave your family" he Told her. "even harder when they leave you or are taken away from you" he whispered, not intending for her to hear, Duke didn't want pity, but if his whispered comment was audible that what would happen and he would have to accept that. “I’m so sorry - are these lands yours? I should have asked earlier,” she asked him apologetically, she was so kind. He shook his head "No, I don't own any part of these lands you can make yourself comfortable wherever you please" he said
He didn't want her to feel uncomfortable, every living thing should feel at ease, She worried a lot it seemed, worrying was bad it was going to make her paranoid and paranoia was no fun duke would know, it's how his first days of losing his family started, he was scared, of everything, now he doesn't really care about the night time sounds. He wanted to tell her not to worry so much, but it really was none of his business, she was just making sure she wasn't intruding on his lands, But duke doesn't own any land and he won't for a very long time. He wanted to tell to to enjoy life, while she could, but he didn't he just yawned and flicked his tail, He didn't really have anything to talk about, making Duke rather boring to hang around, that thought occurred maybe he was boring her
"Sorry, if i don't talk a lot" he said "I'm more of a listener, I never really have anything interesting to talk about, that's why animals don't hang around me much...I'm boring" He shrugged "but i can't help it if I bore things its just the way I am" maybe now she would think he is crazy, apologizing for being boring, gee what was this world coming to? Next ting Duke would know; the Gazelle would learn to fly!
