The ocean was cool, the water not yet given the chance to warm with the fresh sun. Euterpe could feel the bright rays as they filtered through the water, grazing her black back as she glided through the waves. Above, when she paused, twirling, spinning in the water, she could see the golden-lined clouds in the pink and orange sky. Euterpe really loved the early mornings and twilight. The sun always painted such beautiful colours when the sun wasn't at full mast. And everything seemed to be bathed in the smooth flow of colours and it was all so beautiful.
Euterpe was easily a morning person. Not only did she dislike feeling like her day was wasted, but the colours were a strong pull to get her moving around. Each morning, the female swam the ocean, watching the sun rise. It was slowly becoming a habit, though not one that she seemed to mind.
"Look at how pretty it is," she chirped to a passing fish. It only looked at her as if she was crazy for being happy so early in the morning. Euterpe only chuckled and continued to swim, making a few lazy turns as she swam. Nothing was going to bother her. Of course, nothing ever did. She made sure of that. The ocean was clear and cool and Euterpe would have a great day. She smiled and closed her eyes as she slowly moved through the water.

With wings that worked at a strenuous rate, and a breath that was too easily escaping him, the minuscule hawk struggled over the giant monstrosity that was the ocean. Sure, it was a beauty to behold, but it was also so deathly terrifying that it kept birds like Uo working even as their meager strength evaporated like the salty water as the sun loomed over the horizon. Uo relaxed as a pocket of air immediately lifted him to greater heights. Panting noticeably, the bird began to descend as the sun rose, doing nothing to his dull feathers. If only I were a vibrant shade of crimson. Then a fish could come to my aid. Uo mentally scolded himself as he dropped farther and farther until seawater was kissing his scaly toes. Squawking in surprise, Uo flapped in no sort of pattern in an effort to rise again. No such luck, he was only hurting himself. If only...
Uo cocked his head upward so his glare focused straight ahead. He saw what he interpreted to be some sort of sleek black landform, and instinctively flew towards it. A pillar of water erupted from some unknown spot of the moving terrain, and without thinking, the tiny hawk interrupted his rythmic wingbeats, and fell onto what he thought to be, a rock. His breathing deepened quickly as he inspected his surroundings. He was glad to find a sanctuary in the middle of the ocean, but it was a little odd that this form was sleek and warm. Almost like a sunbathed riverstone... Uo immediately jumped when the thing began to make sound, and scrambled towards the strange shape that grew from the terrain. His feet failed to gain purchase on the slippery plain, and he began to slide, croaking in misery.
"I didn't plan on leaving like this. But of course, my stupid appearance earned me no help. Oh if only I were the color of my native brothers!"
ooc; Post Count: 324 words Muse: High Other: I've always wanted to see what could happen between to creatures of seperate terrains :] Btw, I have place Uo on Euterpe's back. If you wish for this to not be where he is, feel free to tell me. I can place him elsewhere

Euterpe settled for a slower pace as she moved through the water. The water was still so calm and the day had yet to cause any problems for her. As the sun rose farther, now about half visible at the edge of the ocean, Euterpe decided it was time to just enjoy the sun. Her swim pulled her even slower through the water as her skin slowly came above the surface. The warm rays touched her skin, instantly warming her. The orca pulled the rest of her body up, letting the warmth soak into her head. Caught up in the moment of joy, she let a spray of water out out above her, letting the water drip over her warmed, black skin. It felt so wonderful.
But she couldn't stay above water for long. Quickly, Euterpe pulled her head back underwater and lavished in the rush of oxygen the water afforded her. But at the time, she just couldn't bring herself to submerge again completly. As it was, she simply continued swimming with as much of her back above water as possible.
Without warning, a light weight fell on her back. Through her thick skin, Euterpe could feel the tingle of feathers and talons. It had happened often that a bird had come to settle on her back as she rested. It came as no great shock that one had settled on her now. Though, she felt the urge to know what bird had come to ride with her. Euterpe curled her body, feeling the bird scramble and twitter as she slid it farther down her body.
"Calm down, I won't let you get wet." Her sweet voice reassured the bird, though she wasn't sure he was giving her much attention at the current time.
Now able to actually see the creature, Euterpe held her tail above the water, keeping the bird dry as she got a good look at it. He was a mangy kind of bird, all browns and whites, but a dirty white; Not like the birds Euterpe normally saw flying about the ocean. This bird was a predator, like herself. He was made for hunting but somehow, he seemed so unfit for the vibrant ocean Euterpe called home. Something about him did not strike her as "tropical." But who was she to judge. She smiled gently, lifting her head above the water so that he could hear her better.
"Hello there. Enjoy the rest while you can. You're quite a ways from shore," she informed him cheerfully.

Uohanu The creature's voice rocked through his tiny frame, and his heart stuttered frantically as a giant eye of the darkest shade of black met his. He blinked twice, his body hanging over the edge of the form, water nipping at his exposed feet. Uo could identify the pair of jaws the immense beast possessed, and this in turn set off his heart once more. All that kept him from committing suicide right then and there were the words of his native tongue that this water-creature seemed to know. He also noted that it did not lick its mouth in hunger like most ravenous predators would, but immersed itself with communicating with him, and by the sound of it, the feminine voice actually seemed rather docile and relaxed. The presumed female spoke in a clear and formal manor, a way of speaking the hawk had grown rather fond of. Uohanu felt his heartbeat soften a tad, and he stuttered to get words out as well.
"I-I am migrating. I got ca-caught up in a thunderstorm that battered me silly. Please excuse me for my -er- interruption. I am just very tired. Do-don't eat me! I beg of you!"
He fanned out his long wings to show that small gashes that were a result of the needles of rain that had bombarded him with every turn he had managed to take during his one-day trip out into the sea. Uo felt stupid for showing the female his wounds, it made him feel more like a weakling than before. It was hard to meet the coal-black eye that stared down upon him. Twas also hard to hear, for his pulse still rang in his ears.
"I assure you kind giant, I will leave whenever you see fit. I dropped in for sanctuary, but have managed to get myself caught up in a mess. I see it only fitting to give you my name miss. I am Uohanu of the Hawaiian plain."
With his strict Hawaiian accent thick in every word he spoke, Uo dipped his head low in a sign of respect, not sure of what could happen if this beast's instincts could kick in. He took a large gulp as he imagined what stomach acid could feel like. Uo glanced up, his brown eyes meeting her black ones, and waited ever patiently for some sort of action to occur.

Great white shark lingered nearby, swimming in circles watching the movements ahead of her. Nah, Lexi was nice... when she wasn't hungry, that is. She was a bigger than most of her age, maybe she got the largeness from her father's side, or perhaps her uncle... maybe both. But, on account it was morning, Lexi was getting a little hungry. She saw a small dolphin and swam down deep and then lunged forward up toward it. The attack happened a ways away from the others and Lexi blasted out of the surface of the ocean. Her lips flew up as she grabbed the dolphin and swam off to feast. After she was done and full, Lexi returned. She said hello to the others once she was close enough. Her massive bodice swayed back and forth as she started to swim in circles again, then in a figure 8. The femme shark looked up and then suddenly smelt blood, the source from afar. She shook her head, she had her fill till lunch. The massive great white resisted the urge to attack the source. She shook her grey and white head once more before asking how everyone was today.
Is it okay if I post with you two?

Now floating up and down I spin;; colliding into sound like whales beneath me diving down I'm sinking to the bottom of my..
Steady wingbeats, fast approaching.
A blur of dusky dun hues hurtled through the sky, wings beating the air ceaselessly to carry forward the fleeing creature. Obsidian optics completely open in terror, a smaller streaked owl dashed through the blue highway among the clouds, terror racking her entire body and nearly making her plummet. Not two wingspans behind her, the dark looming figure of another owl gave chase, snapping his beak hungrily. Although Kassandra was a large bird, accustomed to being the predator, there was one thing she feared: great horned owls. They were vicious, nasty, and ruthless.. and loved the taste of barred owl.
This particular great horned had been hiding among the branches of a spruce, hunting in the daytime as they tend to often do. Kass, also being of a species that enjoys the occasional day hunt, accidentally crossed paths with this mean birdie.
And now, she was running-- or rather, flying-- for her life. Rocketing forward with the wind at her back, she skimmed high above treetops, which rushed by in an olive blur.
Behind her, she heard the tempo of the beats increase, and the sound of swirling air drew closer and closer. Her heart rebounded around in her ribcage as she tried to go yet faster, forcing her wings to move at their limit, and angle backwards to propel her. The green streaks below her were replaced suddenly with a shocking blue expanse, a color change so vivid and sudden as lightning crashing through a pitch-black night. The waves flashed by below her now, raising and falling like a surging herd of wildebeast. But despite her incredible speed, she knew she could not out-fly a trained killer. She bunched her muscles, and tensed for the blow.
Kassie felt a sharp pain and a pull in her tail feathers, as the predator sliced down and tore them away with a burly, taloned leg. She screeched in horror as blood flecked the azure sky and her long, precious feathers spun down through the air to land gracefully atop the water, curdles of red twisting out to form little stormclouds of blood beneath the surface. She faltered in her course, struggled to maintain balance, and then dropped like a rock towards the deep cerulean waters below. She closed her eyes, the rate of her fall making her heart rise to her throat as if it were a pellet waiting to be passed. Her limp, delicate body smacked into the water. Kassandra lay very still, besides her heaving sides, as her oiled feathers danced lazily in the current, keeping her halfway afloat. She couldn't see what the great horned was doing, for she was simply too exhausted to turn her head...
as she began to sink..
everything that freaks me out the lighthouse beam has just run out I'm cold.. as cold as cold can be
The great horned circled above, crying out in victory, and clacking his beak arrogantly. He traveled in a wide arc, like a vulture ready to feast on a carcass. He tilted his tail like a rudder, and began to the descent, his talons outstretched towards the barred owl greedily. But then, his golden gaze caught the flash of a brilliant silver body as it burst from the surface of the water.. and he also happened to notice the rows upon deadly rows of glistening, white teeth that latched onto the dolphin before tugging it under the surface. He looked from Kass, to the rippling circle where the beast had leaped, and back to Kass again. Deciding finally that his meal wasn't worth a throat studded with fangs, he grudgingly flapped away, disappointment emanating from his very pores.
Kass waited for a few moments, as the crimson fluid trickled into the water from her tail, leaking her life into the ocean. Why was she not dead yet? Clearly, her attacker had fled. Perhaps it had seen something frightening..
A shudder ran up her spine, her skin turning icy at the thought of something scarier than a great horned owl.
Kassie realized that she was sinking, and her soaked feathers would not in any way allow her to become airborne; especially not with a shredded tail.
Just before her head slipped under the surface, a loud wail of despair blasted from her throat. Through the murky depths, she saw a large marine animal swimming in her direction. A flash of a white belly was all she could truly make out. Then the water converged over her head, and drew her into its welcoming embrace.
I wanna swim away, but don't know how Sometimes it feels just like I'm falling in the ocean

Lexi poked her head above water while swimming in circles. She saw an owl giving another owl a good chase. This made Lexi angered because of the fear in the barred owls eyes. She dove down but before she could jump from the ocean at the barn owl, Kass (is that her name) had fallen in the ocean and couldn't get back to the surface. Lexi was about to do something that defied shark nature... she dove down deep and swam upward. The tip of her nose bumped the owl's back and Lexi opened her mighty jaws. She enclosed them around Kass and took her to the surface. She swam in circles once more with her jaws open, allowing Kass breathe. Lexi left the owl drift from her mouth and back into the water. Lexi dove down once more and put the bird upon her back, giving her a chance to dry off. Yeah, this was totally against shark nature. But Lexi wasn't hungry, she wasn't like the larger males, she wasn't mean... she was caring and helpful when her stomach wasn't roaring for a meal. And then, another orca swam up. It was a male, and if Lexi were an orca she would say he was rather handesome. The orca swam up to Lexi. I see you are a shark and need to keep moving in order to survive. I'm sure this beautiful owl doesn't want to become dizzy upon your back. he said. Lexi replied. Alright. she said. She dove down, leaving Kass on the surface. The orca took his place and let the bird rest upon his back.

Kassie was drifting between unconsciousness and reality, her mind trapped in a dizzying blackness. She felt her feathers lift gently as a wind stirred them. Her skin tingled under the warm glare of the sun as the water leaped from it. Then, her eyes blinked open, and the world snapped into sharp focus.
"Wh-what.. where am I?" she muttered to herself, flapping her wings tenderly to raise herself onto her feet. Looking around, all she could see was blue. Miles and miles and endless miles of blue. "Whoa," she breathed, letting the color wash over her. It's almost as endless as the sky, she thought. Then, her head tilted downwards, and she saw the black skin of an orca. "GAAHH!!" she whistled, fluttering her wings around her in shock, hopping up and down a bit. She was standing on the back of a great ocean predator! Her beak opened and closed wordlessly in shock.
"Umm.. excuse me sir.." she paused, clearing her throat so her voice didn't squeak, "but would you mind telling me what happened? Last I remember, I hit the water and nearly drowned.." Her head swiveled to face behind her, and she noticed another whale, with a hawk perched atop her back. "Is this really happening?" she muttered to herself, blinking her eyes rapidly and shaking her head as if to clear away a dream. But the images remained.
And even more bizarre, she faintly recalled the feel of teeth gently gripping her body and hauling it to the surface. Had this whale placed her that close to death, and not been tempted to take her life? "Did you save me?" she addressed the whale again, her head twisting towards a slowly enlarging circle of ripples where something had clearly dove under the surface. Confusion danced in her dark brown eyes, projecting from them and hovering around her. This was certainly an interesting day. [/blockquote]

Free chuckled. No, I did not. That great white shark was the one that saved you deary. he admitted, not looking at Lexi. Lexi noted that she was addressed and poked her head above the water. The great white finally stayed in place for a moment while her midnight black eyes looked at the owl. Only her dorsel fin was visible as she dove back down and kept moving to breathe. Then her top fin slowly sank and was out of sight. Lexi was off to hunt, on account the sun was high and it was now noon. She came back half an hour later and saw the owl still perched upon Freedom. Yes, it is true. I was the one who had saved you from certian death. Lexi stated proudly. Yes, I know. It defies great white shark nature, yell at me, scream at me, attack me. Do what you want to me. But I'm not like all those other sharks who kill mercilessly to feed their never ending hunger! That's not me. I know, call me a freak if you will. Lexi stated. Her kind nature was the reason that she didn't have a mate.

Kass listened to the orca, and let out a low whistle as the enormous, fearsome head of a great white shark popped above the water. "Holy crow," she muttered, watching the great animal swim in circles. I came very close to certain death, she thought, her eyes stretching wide in wonder and gratitude. She was still awestruck as the creature ducked back under the surface and rocketed off to hunt.
She blinked and then tapped the orca's back lightly with her tail. "Well you are still holding me above my doom right now, so for that I thank you. I don't know how I'm going to get back to shore with a nasty wound like this, but I'll manage somehow. I just need a little while to rest. I hope you don't mind.." Her head snapped back around to face the sound of another beast breaking the surface of the waves. It was the shark again.
Kassandra was dumbfounded as Lexi gave an impassioned speech. "Yell at me, scream at me, attack me. Do what you want to me. But I'm not like all those other sharks," came her slightly saddened statement. Kass spread her wings out behind her, as if sweeping back a cape, and bowed to the shark so low, that her beak almost brushed Free's back. "I encourage individuality ma'am, I would never judge you for it. Especially not because that certain detachment from the normality of your species saved my life! I am ever grateful to you, and would be honored to call you a friend."
Lifting from her prostrated state, she stood up at her full height again and tucked her wings tightly against her side. Glancing from the back of the whale that was her perch, and then back towards the benevolent shark, she blinked slowly. "I am called Kassandra. But you all may call me Kass. May I have the privilege of knowing your names?" She inquired, with a slight tilt of the head, and a roguish smile. [/blockquote]
